Janhvi Kapoor is facing criticism from Telugu movie fans following her recent comments about the portrayal of her character in Ram Charan’s Peddi.

During her appearance on Karan Johar’s show, the actress admitted that the presentation was objectionable and said she could have spoken up instead of silently following the director’s instructions

However, her explanation has not gone down well with several Telugu fans. They feel that despite knowing what was happening, she cleverly shifted the blame onto others while trying to take responsibility

Some fans are also questioning her double standards by sharing objectionable clips from her earlier films and trolling her on social media. Her comments have now sparked another debate around Peddi.

Music composer Sashwat Sachdev, who gained attention for his work in Dhurandhar, is reportedly in talks to compose a few songs for NTR and Prashanth Neel’s upcoming film Dragon

Interestingly, Ravi Basrur is already associated with the project as its original music composer. Sashwat’s reported involvement has created curiosity among fans.

The grand launch ceremony of Mega Power Star Ram Charan and Sukumar’s film will be held tomorrow, and fans are highly excited about it. Ahead of the big day, Sukumar’s wife, Thabitha Sukumar, shared an exciting post about the project on her Instagram handle.

She wrote, “As Sukku’s wife, this project makes me incredibly proud and excited. I know the hard work, passion and countless hours he has poured into his writing, and seeing it all come together is so special. With this much-loved combination reuniting for their second film, the excitement and expectations are even higher. Can’t wait to see this journey unfold!”

Thabitha Sukumar particularly highlighted the efforts Sukumar has put into writing, and the post has indeed left Charan’s admirers highly elated. We will likely get an idea about the genre tomorrow.

After a long wait, Venkatesh and Trivikram have finally joined hands for the family entertainer Aadarsha Kutumbam. The movie was postponed multiple times, but it finally made it to the big screens yesterday.

The film received mixed reviews from critics, and on its opening day, it earned around Rs. 20 crores globally as per trade reports. The movie started on a slow note but picked up reasonably well with the first and second shows. Srinidhi Shetty played the female lead.

S. Radhakrishna (China Babu) of Haarika & Hassine Creations has bankrolled Aadarsha Kutumbam. Yuvina Parthavi, Nivetha Pethuraj, Nara Rohit, Pujita Ponnada, Rao Ramesh, Raja Prajwal, Devyani Sharma, and Brahmaji played key roles. Thaman is the music composer.

Akka is the latest web series backed by Yash Raj Entertainment. The show stars Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte in the lead roles. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Akka is all about the battle for power. The story is set in a fictional region called Pernuru, which follows a matriarchal system. The region is divided into three towns: Malemar, Herkada, and Perplady. Mutthakka (Tanvi Azmi) is the chief, while Duggamma (B. Jayashree) and Subbamma (Nivedita Bhargav) hold the next positions in the hierarchy. Bhavani (Keerthy Suresh) is also part of the Akka clan and oversees the key operations of their liquor business.

Amar (Anshuman Pushkar) from that region runs a smuggling operation but fails to get the upper hand over Akka clan. This is when Rudra (Radhika Apte), a powerful woman from Mumbai, arrives in Pernuru. She joins hands with Amar to dethrone the Akka clan. What happens next forms the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

While we have seen several films centred on the quest for power, what makes Akka unique is its matriarchal system. Everything is controlled by women, while men are often relegated to the background. This makes the premise feel fresh.

There are some interesting portions that keep us hooked. The Ankam fight sequence, the backstory of Radhika Apte’s character, and the way Keerthy Suresh’s character is placed in challenging situations hold our attention.

Keerthy Suresh delivers a fine performance, and her screen presence is pretty good. Radhika Apte does well in a stylish avatar, while Khauf fame Monika Panwar springs a surprise despite her limited screen time. Pooja Maharaj does a good job with the action sequences.

Minus Points:

The key issue with Akka is that it enters a predictable zone after a point. The narrative should have been peppered with more surprising elements to keep the proceedings engaging throughout.

By the fourth episode, it becomes clear that a key character lacks the support needed to defeat her enemy. The final episode begins with a flashback showing the Akka clan humiliating a tribe’s leader. Minutes later, the character in trouble approaches the same leader, who immediately agrees to offer help. This is convenient writing at its best.

The show also doesn’t establish its characters and world effectively, leaving room for confusion. There are too many characters, but most of them get very little to do.

Technical Aspects:

The background score by John Stewart Eduri is impressive, while cinematographer Selva Kumar superbly captured the lovely locations. The editing is satisfactory, and the production design is splendid.

Dharmaaj Shetty’s direction works partially, but the overall execution could have been better, especially given the show’s unique premise.

Verdict:

On the whole, Akka features a fresh premise mounted on a grand scale, but the presentation is not entirely fulfilling and works only in parts. Keerthy Suresh, Radhika Apte, and Monika Panwar deliver neat performances, and some portions are engaging. However, the show is let down by predictability, convenient writing, and an overcrowded cast very little to do.
