Devi-Sri-Prasad

Legendary director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is coming up with his most prestigious project, Sing Geetham. The film is produced by Nag Ashwin under the prestigious banners Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema. Ayaan, Ahalya Bamroo, and Shalini Kondepudi play key roles in the film, while Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad has composed the music. The teaser and songs have received a positive response, and the film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on June 11. On this occasion, Devi Sri Prasad interacted with the media and shared insights about the film.

How did you feel when you learned that you would be working with Singeetam Srinivasa Rao garu?

I am a huge fan of him. He is a legend. I used to admire him whenever he came to meet my father. Long ago, we planned a film on Jesus with Pawan Kalyan garu, but it didn’t materialize. Around that time, Singeetam garu told me about this idea, and I decided to work on it.

Since Singeetam garu conceived this story long ago, how relevant will it be today?

He never thinks according to trends. His thought process is unique, and no one thinks like him. Even today, Pushpaka Vimanam remains a film that was far ahead of its time. Sing Geetham also carries that kind of relevance.

Is it only a comedy film?

It’s not just a comedy film. Sing Geetham has tremendous emotional depth. Hats off to Singeetam garu. I feel very lucky to be a part of this film.

The dialogues have been turned into songs. Tell us about it.

It was truly a challenging film for me. I read the entire script, and I had to transform every dialogue into music. To work on a film like this, one needs a strong command of the language.

What were the challenges for you?

Most films follow a certain format, but for Sing Geetham, I had to create one. I used to segregate the music into different parts and send them across. Based on the feedback, I made changes and refined the work.

How did you feel after watching the final output?

We all watched the film yesterday at the studio. We were awestruck by Singeetam garu’s vision. We understood how uniquely he thinks. It gave me immense satisfaction.

What kind of experience will the film offer to the audience?

It will offer a completely different experience. Just like the characters in the film, audiences will leave the theatres conversing in a singing style. More importantly, the film will inspire people, as it has been made by a 94-year-old filmmaker.

Patriot

Patriot

When the Malayalam spy action thriller Patriot hit theaters, it generated immense pre-release buzz as it marked the historic on-screen reunion of Mollywood legends Mammootty and Mohanlal after a long hiatus. Despite the excitement surrounding this rare cinematic collaboration, the espionage drama underperformed at the box office and failed to fully connect with mainstream audiences.

Now, after a five-week theatrical run, Patriot has made its much-awaited digital debut on ZEE5. The streaming platform has released the film in Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Tamil, expanding its reach to audiences across the country.

Given the sharply divided theatrical response between disappointed action fans and viewers who appreciated its political thriller elements, the film’s performance in the digital space is being closely monitored by industry observers.

Apart from its iconic leading duo, Patriot features a stellar ensemble cast that includes Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Zarin Shihab, Nayanthara, Revathi, and Rajiv Menon. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the ambitious project was backed by producers Anto Joseph and Anil Kumar, who provided the scale needed for its sprawling global espionage narrative. Complementing the film’s tense atmosphere is an understated yet effective musical score composed by Sushin Shyam.

At a time when even big-budget films are struggling to finalize OTT and satellite deals, the upcoming Tollywood ambitious film Nagabandham has pulled off a stunner. The makers have successfully closed the non-theatrical deals for whopping prices, once again proving that content matters the most.

Director Abhishek Nama reportedly showed the final cut to top entertainment companies, and after being impressed by the quality, the top networks acquired the rights. The post-theatrical streaming rights of the movie have been bagged by global streaming giant Amazon Prime Video.

Star Maa has bought the Telugu satellite rights, while Zee TV has acquired the satellite rights for Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam versions. Zee Studios is presenting the film to audiences across North India and overseas markets.

This is a massive achievement since the protagonist Virat Karrna is just one film old. The huge demand for the film’s rights is an indication of how good content with the right approach can do wonders. Abhishek Nama has sprung a surprise with his grand vision, which was clearly visible in promotional material.

Varun Dhawan’s latest rom-com entertainer Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, also starring Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur, has hit the big screens. David Dhawan is the director. Let’s see how the film is.

Story:

Jaswinder Ahuja, aka Jass Ahuja (Varun Dhawan), is a wedding photographer who falls in love with Baani (Mrunal Thakur) while working at a wedding. Baani too falls in love with him, and they get married in a cinematic fashion. However, five years after their marriage, Baani applies for divorce because Jass Ahuja wants to have kids, but she refuses, citing her professional career and responsibilities. Later, Jass Ahuja moves to London, where he starts dating Preet (Pooja Hegde). To Jass Ahuja’s shock, Baani re-enters his life, leading to chaos and fun.

Plus Points:

The second half is filled with decent entertainment. After the interval twist, the narrative picks up steam as the protagonist juggles between two women. Varun Dhawan’s antics to keep the truth hidden from the female leads generate good laughs.

The hospital sequences in the second half, involving Rakesh Bedi and Chunky Panday, along with the house sequence featuring Maniesh Paul, have come out well. Varun Dhawan delivers an entertaining performance and looks energetic on screen throughout. The fun dialogues are neatly written. For example, the one referring to Shah Rukh Khan from Jawan elicits smiles.

Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde’s roles are largely meant for glamour, and both do well in their respective parts. The film’s runtime is crisp, and there are no significant dull stretches.

Minus Points:

While the jokes and entertainment largely work in the latter half, the film’s impact and the hero’s character are undermined by the climax. It portrays the male protagonist as someone desperate for women, whereas the proceedings until that point suggest otherwise. Jass Ahuja enters into another relationship only because his wife divorces him, and not out of any bad intentions.

Very few jokes work in the first half, while most of them fail to land as intended, making this portion below par. In particular, the love track in the opening half hour is quite ordinary.

Rom-coms generally need good music to elevate the overall experience, but Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai falls short in this aspect, with only one song (the remix) making an impression. There was good scope for emotions in the climax, but the film fails to capitalize on it.

Technical Aspects:

The music isn’t great, and with better songs, the film would have been more captivating. Raju Singh’s background score is decent. Ayananka Bose’s camera work is vibrant, while the editing and production values are satisfactory.

David Dhawan’s direction is a mixed bag. While the first half isn’t very effective, the second half offers some good humor. However, the impact is taken away by the climax and the cameo that follows it.

Verdict:

On the whole, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is a romantic comedy that works in parts with a better second half. Varun Dhawan’s entertaining performance, the presence of Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur, and some good humor in the latter half are the film’s strengths. However, a below-par first half, the lack of good music, and the climax weaken the overall impact.

KD-The-Devil

Kannada actor Dhruva Sarja’s recent movie, KD: The Devil, was released in cinemas on April 30, 2026, but failed to make an impact at the box office. Even the release of its Telugu version did little to help improve its theatrical performance. To test the waters and reach a wider audience, the makers have now brought the movie to OTT.

Directed by Prem, the gritty period action thriller has arrived on ZEE5 in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. This digital premiere gives the high-budget film a fresh opportunity to connect with home viewers across different regions. It remains to be seen whether the film will receive a better response on the streaming platform than it did during its theatrical run.

Produced by KVN Productions, the film features an impressive ensemble cast, including Bollywood veterans Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty. They are joined by rising star Reeshma Nanaiah and the versatile Ramesh Aravind in pivotal roles. Arjun Janya composed the music for this high-octane, action-packed flick.
