TN 2026: Thanga Natchathiram, the Tamil political drama that hit screens earlier this month, is heading to OTT much sooner than expected. The film is set for its digital premiere on April 30, 2026, just about 20 days after its theatrical release.

What’s really grabbing attention, though, is not just the early OTT arrival but the unusual release strategy. Instead of going the conventional route with a single streaming partner, the makers have opted for a simultaneous release across five platforms.

The film will stream on Amazon Prime Video, Simply South (overseas), Shortflix, AP International (South Cinema), and Aha.

This kind of wide digital rollout is quite rare and signals a clear intent to maximise reach across markets rather than rely on exclusivity. By splitting platforms between domestic and international audiences while also tapping multiple digital avenues, the team seems to be aiming for strong visibility in the OTT space.

Starring Natty and directed by Umapathy Ramaiah, TN 2026 revolves around a popular film star stepping into politics, blending satire with mass moments. The film generated decent buzz during its theatrical run, particularly for its political theme.

A section of the audience and social media circles drew comparisons to actor Vijay’s real-life political entry, which added to the discussion around the film. However, the makers have maintained that it is a fictional political satire and not based on any specific individual.

With a quick turnaround from theatres to OTT and a rare five-platform release backing it, TN 2026 is now looking to find a wider audience online. Whether this strategy pays off remains to be seen, but it has certainly made the film’s digital debut one to watch.

BIker-and-Rakassa

BIker-and-Rakassa

Netflix is steadily expanding its footprint in South Indian cinema, and its latest move brings two recent Telugu theatrical releases to the platform at the same time. The streaming giant has secured the digital rights for Biker and Raakaasa, giving a solid boost to its Telugu lineup this month. Interestingly, both films shared the same theatrical release date and are now set to arrive on OTT together on May Day (May 1, 2026).

Biker grabs attention as India’s first motocross-based film, blending high-speed racing with an emotional father-son story. The on-screen dynamic between Sharwanand and Rajasekhar adds depth, making the film more than just a sports drama. Director Abhilash Reddy focused heavily on authenticity, and the racing sequences reflect that effort, which connected well with audiences in theatres.

On the other hand, Raakaasa takes a completely different route, mixing fantasy, horror, and comedy into an entertaining package. Sangeeth Sobhan leads the film with strong comic timing, supported effectively by Vennela Kishore and Getup Srinu. Debut director Manasa Sharma manages the genre shifts smoothly, keeping the narrative accessible.

With both films premiering this Friday, viewers now have two very different options to pick from at home. Whether it is a sports drama with emotional weight or a lighthearted supernatural entertainer, this dual release offers a well-rounded weekend watch for Telugu audiences.

Kartavya

Kartavya, starring Saif Ali Khan, generated interest among OTT audiences with its announcement. The investigative crime thriller backed by Bollywood Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment is reportedly set to arrive on Netflix in May, with an official announcement of the streaming date expected shortly.

Kartavya features Saif Ali Khan as police officer Pawan Malik, and the film showcases how the honest cop investigates the murder of a journalist, which puts his family at risk. The movie is directed by Pulkit, who earlier helmed Bhumi Pednekar’s Bhakshak for Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment.

Rasika Dugal, Sanjay Mishra, Saurabh Dwivedi, Zakir Hussain, and Manish Chaudhari will be seen in key roles. Saif Ali Khan was the one who featured in the very first mainstream web series from India (Sacred Games), and it received a solid viewership. The actor aims to make a strong impression with Kartavya now.

Sodhara

Sodhara

Exactly a year ago, a Telugu movie titled Sodhara was released. Starring Sampoornesh Babu in the lead role, alongside Sanjosh, Prachi Bansal, and Aarti Gupta, the film unfortunately did not perform well at the box office.

Now, a year later, the movie has finally found its way to an OTT platform. Aha has announced that it will arrive on May 1, 2026, and the audience’s digital response is now highly anticipated.

Produced by Chandra Chaganla under the Cans Entertainment banner, the film features Babu Mohan, Getup Srinu, and Baba Bhaskar in key roles. Sunil Kashyap composed the movie’s soundtrack.

Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) is Pradeep Ranganathan’s recent outing, which failed to make an impact at the box office. Krithi Shetty played his on-screen pair, while Vignesh Shivan directed the film.

The futuristic romantic drama is now expected to arrive on OTT earlier than usual. While a four week window has become the norm, reports suggest that the film may premiere sooner, likely in the first week of May 2026 on Amazon Prime Video.

Backed by Nayanthara and S. S. Lalit Kumar, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, the film also features S. J. Suryah and Yogi Babu in key roles. Stay tuned for more OTT-related updates.

The Tamil original series ‘Exam’ was announced during a recent Amazon Prime Video slate event. This high-stakes socio-thriller explores the dark underbelly of India’s competitive testing system, highlighting the intense pressure faced by millions of students.

Produced by Pushkar and Gayathri under Wallwatcher Films, the series continues their run of grounded, gritty storytelling after Vikram Vedha and Suzhal. It has now locked its streaming date. Amazon Prime Video confirmed that Exam will premiere on May 15, 2026, with seven episodes. It will stream simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.

The story follows a determined young woman with a mysterious past who infiltrates the world of the Regional Public Service Exam scam to expose a paper-leak network exploiting students.

Written and directed by National Award-winner A. Sarkunam, the series stars Dushara Vijayan, Aditi Balan, and Abbas, with supporting roles by Vasundhara Kashyap and Naren Mani.

Raakaasaa

Raakaasaa

Raakaasa is one of the notable Telugu films released in April 2026. After receiving a decent response during its theatrical run, the horror comedy is now set for its digital debut on Netflix. The streaming giant recently confirmed via social media that the film will be available for streaming from May 1, 2026.

While Netflix confirmed multilingual releases in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, the absence of a Hindi version has raised questions. Most films today are released in all major languages to maximise reach. Despite its clear potential among Hindi-speaking audiences, Raakaasa has not been included in Netflix’s Hindi lineup, likely due to pre-existing agreements made before its theatrical release.

There is a strong possibility that the Hindi version may stream on ZEE5, given that Z Studios co-produced the film. If a ZEE5 release does not materialise, audiences will have to wait for an official update from the makers regarding the Hindi OTT rights.

Produced by Niharika Konidela, the film marks the feature directorial debut of Manasa Sharma and features music by Anudeep Dev. The film boasts an ensemble cast including Sangeeth Sobhan, Nayan Sarika, Vennela Kishore, Getup Srinu, Brahmaji, and Tanikella Bharani.

Kashyap Sreenivas, who is set to make his directorial debut with Tharun Bhascker’s Gaayapadda Simham, feels that India is yet to develop in the digital space and that there is a great room for improvement. He stated that India is yet to get even one series that matches the standards of Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad.

“Back in 2013, I wanted to make a show as I anticipated that the web series market would open up in India. Now there are apps, but where is the content? Where is our Game of Thrones? Where is our Breaking Bad? I feel we are not realizing our full potential,” said the director.

He added, “Even with the growth of OTT, I don’t think we utilized it well.” Will the director score success with his first film? Will he venture into the OTT space and create ambitious shows? Let’s wait and see.
