The biopic of the King of Pop Michael Jackson, titled Michael, premiered on April 22, 2026, in several regions across the globe and initially received a negative response. However, the scenario changed once it hit theaters for the general public.

Audiences have embraced Jaafar Jackson’s performance and are loving the film, giving it a big thumbs up. Within just two days of its release in India, the film reportedly grossed over Rs. 10 crore, with the weekend collection expected to reach around Rs. 16 crore, which is impressive.

Globally, the film is on track to earn around $100 million in its opening weekend, potentially the highest ever for a biopic. How much more the film will add to this total remains to be seen.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the biopic also stars Nia Long, Juliano Valdi, and KeiLyn Durrel Jones in key roles. The film’s music is composed by Lior Rosner.

Many believe the release date has been withheld due to Jana Nayagan, which is currently facing issues with censor certification and release planning. The film was recently leaked online, and the makers are moving quickly to bring it to theaters as soon as possible. They are now considering May 7 or May 14 as potential release dates, depending on clearance from the CBFC.

As a result, the Karuppu team is likely waiting for Jana Nayagan’s official release date announcement before finalising their own, so they can choose an alternative date if needed.

Jana Nayagan stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead and is directed by H. Vinoth, with Mamitha Baiju playing a key role. The film is produced by KVN Productions, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Kara is a Dhanush-starrer village crime drama directed by Vignesh Raja. The trailer has sparked strong interest among audiences, and the casting of Mamitha Baiju has become a major talking point.

However, Mamitha Baiju was not the first choice for the role. According to Vignesh Raja, Chaitra J Achar was initially finalised as the female lead. She was later replaced due to her similar traditional look in My Lord, which was scheduled for an earlier release and stars Sasikumar.

Following this, Mamitha Baiju, known for her bubbly roles, was approached and she surprisingly agreed to take on the part. It will be interesting to see how she adapts to this more intense, rooted character.

With its May 1 release approaching, the film is back in the headlines after distributor Dil Raju revealed an interesting detail about the story.

Speaking at the trailer launch event, Dil Raju said the film features references to five stars – Prabhas, Mahesh Babu, Siddharth, Yash, and Vijay Deverakonda – across five different comedic episodes in the second half. He added that if these episodes click, the film could match the comedy level of Jathi Ratnalu. This revelation has raised curiosity among audiences about how these star references are incorporated.

JD Chakravarthy will be seen in a negative role, while Manasa Choudhary and Faria Abdullah play the female leads. The film also features Vishnu Oi, Harshavardhan, and Subhalekha Sudhakar.
