Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur’s love and action drama Dacoit is continuing its strong run at the box office. Directed by newcomer Shaneil Deo and produced by Supriya Yarlagadda, the film is holding steady after a solid opening weekend.

Even on a working Monday, the film managed to clock over 53.37K ticket sales on BookMyShow in the last 24 hours, underlining its consistent pull among audiences.

The film’s momentum extends overseas as well. Dacoit has crossed the $1 million milestone in North America and is now heading towards the same mark in the USA. Back home, the response across the Telugu states remains encouraging, with collections holding firm in key centres.

On the business front, the makers are already in a comfortable zone. A strategic release plan combined with strong non theatrical deals ensured that a major portion of the investment was recovered early, and the ongoing theatrical run is adding to the returns.

With a public holiday boosting footfalls, advance sales are looking positive, and a noticeable jump in collections is expected on day 5.

Ramayana

CinemaCon 2026 marked a historic first, with Ramayana becoming the only Indian film to be showcased at the event. Producer Namit Malhotra and actor Yash represented the project on a global stage.

When asked how he would describe the experience of working on Ramayana, Malhotra said it feels like an “Avatar meets Gladiator moment.” He explained that the film blends the expansive, visually rich world of Avatar with the emotional depth and character driven storytelling of Gladiator, where scale and human drama coexist.

The statement underlines the film’s core intent: to deliver a grand cinematic spectacle while keeping the emotional journey at its heart, positioning Ramayana as a globally appealing epic.

Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash in key roles, among others. Mounted on a massive budget of Rs 4000 crore, the mythological epic is being retold on a lavish scale to engage and captivate the current generation. The first part is slated for release during Diwali 2026, with the second part planned for the same festive window in 2027. The music is composed by Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman.

Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam is one of the most loved franchises in Malayalam cinema. The third installment, Drishyam 3, is scheduled to hit the big screens on May 21. The second film, Drishyam 2, had arrived directly on Amazon Prime Video during COVID-19.

The makers thought that releasing Drishyam 2 in theatres ahead of Drishyam 3 would turn out to be an added advantage for the threequel. However, in a shocking manner, the film’s theatrical release has turned out to be a huge failure, with audiences not showing any interest.

The film collected just about Rs. 3.5 lakhs in Kerala, and trade experts opine that the re-release was totally uncalled for and could have been avoided, considering it has been a long time since the second part released on OTT. Nonetheless, Drishyam 3 is still expected to open big at the ticket windows.

Adivi Sesh’s Dacoit is currently running in theatres. The intense action-romantic drama, directed by Shaniel Deo, features Mrunal Thakur as the female lead. To promote the film, Natural Star Nani stepped in and shot a special interview with Sesh.

During the conversation, Nani made an interesting remark about filmmakers. “Lately, filmmakers have developed an attitude of underdelivering and underestimating audiences. They have started believing that whatever content they create is enough to become a box office hit. As a viewer, I feel they are looking down on me.”

Nani added, “Throughout Dacoit, I felt the viewer in me was given respect.” Which films and directors Nani was referring to remains unclear, but his statement is sure to spark discussions online.

After multiple postponements, Pradeep Ranganathan’s futuristic romantic comedy Love Insurance Kompany (LIK) finally hit the big screens last Friday. Directed by Vignesh Shivan, the movie stars Krithi Shetty as the female lead.

The movie opened to mixed reviews, with criticism aimed at the uninteresting second half. In the opening weekend, LIK earned around Rs. 18 crores gross in Tamil Nadu. The three-day total in the home turf is lower than Pradeep Ranganathan’s earlier releases, Dude (Rs. 22 crores) and Dragon (Rs. 25 crores).

While Dude achieved solid numbers even with mixed talk, LIK is not able to post such numbers, a clear example that shows that pre-release hype is more important now. Yogi Babu, Seeman, Gouri Kishan, Shah Rah, and Malavika play other important roles. Nayanthara has produced this film, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Tamil director H. Vinoth is reportedly shifting his focus to his next projects after Jana Nayagan. As per the latest buzz in Kollywood, he is likely to reunite with Karthi for his next film, which is said to be a sequel to their earlier blockbuster Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (Khakee).

The film was a major success in the Telugu states as well and still holds a special place in Karthi’s career. The actor also has another crazy sequel lined up in the form of Kaithi 2, but that project doesn’t seem to happen anytime soon.

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj is currently focused on his film with Allu Arjun and will begin work on Kaithi 2 only after completing #AA23. If Khakee 2 materializes and delivers the same impact as the first film, it will not only boost Karthi’s career but also build strong momentum for Kaithi 2 at the box office.
