Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra starrer dark comedy thriller Toaster is scheduled to premiere on Netflix today, and if you have been waiting to watch it, here is why you are unable to stream it at the moment.

Usually, Netflix releases movies at midnight (12 AM), but a few films arrive at 12:30 PM, and the same is happening with Toaster as well. Directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary, the movie will be available in multiple languages apart from Hindi and Telugu.

The story follows Ramakant, played by Rajkummar Rao, a man known for his extreme frugality and stinginess. This quirky comedy drama marks the maiden production venture of Rajkummar Rao and his wife Patralekhaa under the banner Kampa Films, with Abhishek Banerjee, Archana Puran Singh, Farah Khan, Upendra Limaye, Jitendra Joshi, and Seema Pahwa in supporting roles, and music composed by Aman Pant.

Toxic, one of the most anticipated upcoming releases, is gearing up for its theatrical debut on June 4. However, the film is currently making headlines for a different reason, its OTT deal remains unresolved.

According to industry buzz, the makers are adopting a wait-and-watch approach, quoting premium prices for the digital rights. This strategy, however, seems to have slowed down negotiations, as leading OTT platforms are reportedly not too keen on matching the high valuation.

With the digital market becoming more cautious, such big-ticket demands are facing increased scrutiny. As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding the OTT partner.

It remains to be seen whether the makers will revise their expectations or continue holding out for a lucrative deal. Stay tuned for more updates.

A few years ago, Prime Video displayed massive domination over global giant Netflix in the Indian market. At that point, Prime Video looked undefeatable as it catered to the masses with a wide variety of content. Also, the high subscription fee worked against Netflix.

However, over the years, the tables have turned, and Netflix now holds the upper hand over Prime Video in India, as it has reportedly registered 92 million monthly users, while Prime Video is lagging behind with 67 million monthly users. While Netflix has seen consistent growth, Prime Video has witnessed a steady decline.

Netflix has now become the go-to platform for filmmakers, thanks to its massive global reach. The platform has also upped its game by focusing on originals with stories deeply rooted in Indian culture. Prices were reduced slightly, and with the increase in quality content, Netflix has attracted more users.

The introduction of ads did more harm than good for Prime Video, and the subscription cost also became dearer. People are now looking beyond price, and whichever platform delivers solid content will have an edge in the market.
