Ram Pothineni’s last outing, Andhra King Taluka, directed by Mahesh Babu. P received good reports and talk, but the film failed commercially. The majority of the people who saw the film liked it, but the problem is that many didn’t watch it. Mythri Movie Makers’ CEO Cherry spoke about the film’s poor theatrical performance while promoting Jetlee.
“Andhra King Taluka is a good film with neat emotions and drama. Even with good talk and reviews, the revenues were disappointing. The theatrical performance was a shocker to us, with the distributor’s share being very low. Producers are in a safe position due to non-theatrical rights. The result is an indication that people are not very keen to watch the films in theatres anymore, other than tier 1 stars,” said Cherry.
He added, “Even for A-listers, if their films are released during festival season, they will work. If released during the non-festive season, the business prospects look bleak. People have become habituated to watching films on OTT to reduce expenses. This is my understanding. Otherwise, there is no reason why people should not go to Andhra King Taluka. Movie-going culture is slowly reducing due to high expenses and shorter OTT windows.”
