T20 cricket often delivers the unexpected, but the Match 35 clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals just completely rewrote the record books. Facing a mountain of 265 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Punjab Kings chased down the target in just 18.5 overs, securing a historic six-wicket victory and completing the biggest successful run chase in IPL history.

The game started with sheer dominance from Delhi Capitals. After winning the toss and opting to bat, opener KL Rahul launched an absolute assault on the Punjab bowlers. He carried his bat through the entire 20 overs, remaining unbeaten on 152 off just 67 deliveries with 16 fours and 9 sixes. At the other end, Nitish Rana matched the intensity, scoring a rapid 91 off 44 balls. Together, they pushed Delhi to a staggering 264 for 2. By the halfway mark, a victory for the home team felt almost certain.

A Relentless Run Chase
When Punjab Kings stepped up to bat, they didn’t waste any time going after the massive target. Opener Prabhsimran Singh set an explosive pace right from the first ball. He hammered 76 runs off 26 balls, clearing the boundary for five sixes and nine fours.

However, the chase saw a highly concerning moment during the third over. Delhi Capitals fast bowler Lungi Ngidi fell backward and hit his head heavily on the turf while attempting a catch off Priyansh Arya. Medical staff quickly intervened, and he had to be taken off the field in an ambulance.

Once play resumed, Priyansh kept the momentum going, adding a quickfire 43 off 17 balls. Following this strong start, captain Shreyas Iyer took complete control of the innings. He hit seven sixes on his way to an unbeaten 71 off 36 balls, effectively dismantling the Delhi bowling attack. Supported by quick cameos from Shashank Singh (19 off 10) and Nehal Wadhera (25 off 15), Iyer anchored the chase perfectly and stayed at the crease to hit the winning runs.

Punjab Kings wrapped up the chase with seven balls to spare. The historic win easily solidifies their top spot on the IPL points table. Meanwhile, it’s a tough night for Delhi, leaving KL Rahul’s incredible, unbeaten century unrewarded.
