After a while, a film of Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja, Irumudi, arrived with solid expectations. The movie directed by Shiva Nirvana features Priya Bhavani Shankar and Baby Nakshatra in key roles. Let’s see how the film is.

Story:

Trinadh (Ravi Teja), a resident of Polluru and an Ayyappa Swamy devotee, owns a banana plantation and loves his daughter Manemma (Baby Nakshatra) to the core. Whatever happens, Manemma tells her father everything, which sometimes leads Trinadh into tussles with some people. Manemma and the village girls go to a neighbouring village for high school, leading to a series of unexpected events that draw Trinadh into action.

Plus Points:

When was the last time we saw a Telugu film with a screenplay that sticks to the story throughout its runtime without any deviations? Well, if you have felt this issue in our industry films lately, then Irumudi is the remedy.

Kudos to Shiva Nirvana for his honest storytelling without including any commercial elements that are not needed for the plot. Not even one scene feels unnecessary in the whole movie. This happens very rarely, and credit where it’s due.

The father-daughter bond is superbly showcased, and it is the biggest draw of Irumudi without an iota of doubt. The combination scenes of Ravi Teja and Baby Nakshatra are beautifully designed and tug at the heartstrings.

Behind the Mass Maharaja persona, there is an extraordinary actor in Ravi Teja whom we haven’t witnessed in recent times. Irumudi brings out the performer in Ravi Teja in full display, and it’s a delight to watch our childhood hero at his best. We only see Trinadh and not Ravi Teja on the screen. Well, when a great actor gets scope to perform, this will be the kind of output. It’s difficult not to fall in love with Ravi Teja’s performance and his heartwarming moments with the child actress.

Baby Nakshatra did a stupendous job. She is adorable and leaves a solid impact by the time the film concludes. Priya Bhavani Shankar, Sai Kumar, Ramesh Indira, and others did well in their respective roles. The intense moments are brilliantly handled with a raw and natural touch, making them all the more impactful.

Minus Points:

In the initial portions of the film, the pacing is slightly slow, and there are visible lip-sync issues in this part, which could have been taken care of. The second half has a few dips at times.

When we look at the crime angle and the big twists, the writing doesn’t feel great, as we have seen similar themes earlier too. But as mentioned earlier, the film wins us over with its honest storytelling.

Technical Aspects:

GV Prakash Kumar’s songs and background score do complete justice to the film. The devotional touch and the rustic nature of the film are neatly brought to life by the music composer. Vishnu Sharma’s cinematography neatly captures the scenic locations of Sileru, making the film visually strong.

The production values are neat, and the editing is satisfactory. Shiva Nirvana’s storytelling is captivating. His making is influenced by films like Rangasthalam and Naa Peru Shiva. Drawing inspiration from other films isn’t wrong, and what matters the most is delivering a good product. Shiva Nirvana scores distinction in this regard. More Telugu films should take the Irumudi route by avoiding unwanted aspects in the name of commercialization.

Verdict:

On the whole, Irumudi is a beautiful emotional ride laced with intense moments and honest storytelling. The Ayyappa Swamy backdrop, father-daughter emotion, Ravi Teja’s spellbinding performance, and, most importantly, the screenplay that stays true to its subject make Irumudi an impactful film. There are a few slow moments, and the themes explored aren’t unique, but the sincere and emotional storytelling overpowers the minor flaws. Ravi Teja is back with a bang. Go for it.

Story:

Narayana (Rayala Harishchandra) approaches the police to report his daughter Sameera’s kidnapping, but when they pay no attention, he moves the High Court. As even the lawyers refuse to take up the case due to a lack of proper information, Narayana dies by suicide on the court premises. Disturbed by his death, advocate Parashuram (Srikanth) files a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and fights for justice. Does he win the case? What happened to Sameera? Does she really exist? Why didn’t the police register the complaint? What challenges did Parashuram face while fighting the case? The answers form the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

Objection My Lord is an honest and well-intentioned attempt that leaves a decent impact. What initially begins as a kidnap case gradually delves into a different issue altogether while delivering a social message. The narrative is neatly-paced, and there some surprise elements to keep us hooked.

The courtroom exchanges between Srikanth and Mukesh Rishi are designed in a filmy style that drives the story forward and makes the proceedings engaging. The approach is simplistic but remains engaging at the same time.

Srikanth shoulders the series with his captivating performance. He is looked down upon by everyone in the court, and an incident completely shatters his confidence. As a person who is ridiculed by his colleagues and suffers from low self-confidence, Srikanth does a terrific job.

Ananya Sharma provides solid support as Srikanth’s assistant. It is after her entry that the protagonist gains confidence and begins to improve. Sameer, Gemini Suresh, Rayala Harishchandra, and Snehal Kamat are good in their respective supporting roles.

Minus Points:

The final episode appears somewhat rushed and could have been better executed, as it forms the heart of the series. Had the crucial revelation happened a bit earlier, the impact could have been much greater. At times, the series gets a bit generic. A few scenes also feature lip-sync issues.

Srikanth’s dynamic with his family is underexplored. We are shown that his son has issues with him, but the presentation lacks depth. As a result, the family angle adds to the runtime without providing much value.

Technical Aspects:

The production design by Brahma Kadali is solid, as the courtroom setup appears authentic. The music by Arunn Chiluveru and the editing by Sai Kishore Kornani are neat. The production values are good.

Suryaa serves as both the cinematographer and showrunner for Objection My Lord. His camera work is effective. Santhosh Ayyappan’s direction is decent. The show has the potential to be even better, but despite its shortcomings, it remains a watchable fare.

Verdict:
On the whole, Objection My Lord is a decent courtroom drama with a social message. The series doesn’t break new ground, but it remains watchable thanks to its good performances and crisp runtime. Srikanth anchors this honest attempt with a sincere performance, and there are a few surprises that keep the proceedings engaging. The climax revelation appears rushed, and the protagonist’s family track could have been depicted better. If you like courtroom dramas, Objection My Lord can be given a try.

After a 14-year hiatus, Pawan Kalyan and Harish Shankar have reunited for a new film titled Ustaad Bhagat Singh. This cop action drama hit the big screens today amid positive buzz. Check out the review to find out how it is.

Story:

Chadhala Marri Nalla Nagappa (Parthiban), who aspires to become the Chief Minister of Telangana, hatches a plan to assassinate the current CM Chandrasekhar Rao (KS Ravikumar). Meanwhile, his son heads to the Nallamalla forest for a getaway but goes mysteriously missing. During the investigation, it is confirmed that Ustaad Bhagat Singh (Pawan Kalyan) is behind his disappearance. Who is he? What led to the rift between him and Nagappa? What circumstances triggered these events, and what is his true motive? The film unravels all these answers.

Plus Points:

The buzz around the actor-director combo returning with Ustaad Bhagat Singh is significant. Expectations were high, especially with Pawan Kalyan returning to dance numbers after a long gap.

Pawan Kalyan delivers in his trademark style. He is at ease in action sequences, which will appeal to fans. His dialogue delivery lands well, though the comedy works only occasionally.

Parthiban puts in a composed performance. While his character lacks a strong impact, he manages to hold his presence. A few face-off moments between him and Pawan Kalyan are effective.

The recreation of the “Ee Manase” song from Tholi Prema is a clear fan-service moment and works in that space. The Mahankali fight sequence stands out as a solid high point, presenting Pawan Kalyan in a powerful light.

Sreeleela shines in few scenes and she looks lovely on screen. The second half has a few entertaining stretches, mainly driven by action and dialogue-heavy moments aimed at fans.

Minus Points:

The film leans heavily on familiar commercial tropes, making the narrative predictable. The story offers little novelty and follows a safe, formula-driven path. Harish Shankar prioritises elevating the star over building a strong screenplay, which limits the film’s overall impact.

The supporting cast is underutilised. Rao Ramesh, Gowtami, and Raashii Khanna have limited scope. Raashii Khanna’s role feels particularly unnecessary and lacks proper closure, making her portions ineffective.

The first half struggles due to weak writing and ineffective comedy, giving it a stretched and uneven feel. The film only shows some improvement in the latter portions.

Thaman’s music is underwhelming. The background score and songs feel repetitive, with noticeable similarities to his earlier work, reducing their impact.

The film could have benefited from stronger emotional depth. Sreeleela’s character could have been written with more nuance, while KS Ravikumar delivers a neat and functional performance within his role.

Technical Aspects:

Harish Shankar had the chance to deliver a stronger film but opts for a predictable narrative. A tighter script could have significantly improved the overall result.

Cinematography by Ayananka Bose is adequate. Thaman’s score is average and affected by repetition. Editing by Karthika Srinivas could have been sharper, especially in the first half. Production values are decent.

Verdict:

On the whole, Ustaad Bhagat Singh is a formula-driven action drama that delivers a few fan-pleasing moments. Pawan Kalyan’s presence and select action sequences work in its favour. However, a predictable storyline, weak first half, and underdeveloped characters hold it back. It may appeal to fans, but for a wider audience, it remains a routine commercial outing.

Review: Sasivadane – Leaves very little impact

Plus Points:

Rakshit Alluri delivered a good performance in this rural action drama. His portrayal was neat in the the emotional scenes involving his father and the female lead. The second half of the film is comparatively better and features some unexpected elements.

The way the movie ends is distinct with a few surprises in store. What starts as a regular love story takes a different turn post-intermission and concludes on a heavy note. Heroine Komalee Prasad looked charming and shared a good chemistry with the hero. The actress displayed conviction in the final moments where the film takes a tonal shift.

Sriman played hero’s father in Sasivadane and he did a solid job. The film leaves us wanting more of Sriman’s character, and the father-son bond is presented well in the latter half with a mix of emotional and shocking moments.

Minus Points:

The first half of the film moves at a slow pace with minimal progress in the story. Here the movie follows the conventional route of love stories but there aren’t any standout or magical moments. While songs drive the narrative in the first hour, the screenplay could have been crafted better.

The rivalry angle between the protagonist and the antagonist required more depth since it leads to a major development in the latter half, plot wise. Had this aspect been established more effectively, it could have benefited the film.

The fight sequences which come at crucial juncture in the film fall flat and their composition could have been done better. The editing is one major aspect where the movie needed more refinement as some unnecessary moments in the first half could have been trimmed.

Technical Aspects:

Saravana Vasudevan’s soothing music is the major highlight of the film. His pleasant score is enriched by the beautiful Konaseema visuals, neatly captured by Shrie Saikumaar Daara. The editing is not satisfactory. The production values are good.

Sai Mohan Ubbana’s story has some unpredictable elements towards the end, but he should have taken more care with the screenplay to hold the film together. The first half lacks interesting moments, while the second half is slightly better with a different climax.

Verdict:

On the whole, Sasivadane is an underwhelming love story with a few decent moments towards the end. The first half moves at a sluggish pace and is mostly dull, while the latter half take a serious turn with some unexpected elements. The lead pair delivers good performances, but the director fails to present a gripping screenplay, making Sasivadane a below-par film overall.
