After the massive success of The Housemaid, Lionsgate has officially announced its sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, and locked a striking release date, December 17, 2027. What makes the announcement stand out is not just the sequel itself, but the high-stakes box office corridor it is stepping into.

The film is set to clash with Avengers: Secret Wars, one of the most anticipated MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) titles, which had already secured the same date. Adding to the speculation, there are strong rumors that The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum could also arrive on that day, potentially turning it into a crowded and competitive global release frame.

Despite the scale of its competition, The Housemaid’s Secret appears to be positioning itself differently, leaning on its psychological, character-driven appeal rather than spectacle. The sequel brings back Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone, with Paul Feig returning to direct, maintaining continuity from the first film.

Production is slated to begin in Fall 2026, and all eyes will be on how this bold release strategy plays out. Going up against a Marvel event film is no small gamble, but if the sequel connects with its target audience, it could carve out its own space during the crowded holiday season.

After Thaai Kizhavi, Kollywood has scored yet another blockbuster with the small-budget film Youth. The coming-of-age comedy-drama is headlined and directed by Ken Karunas, son of comedian Karunas. The movie is doing solid business in Tamil Nadu and international markets, with global collections already crossing the Rs. 50 crore mark.

The film was released in Telugu last Friday and received decent reviews from critics. In four days, Youth’s Telugu version collected Rs. 3.73 crores gross, which is a fair number for a dubbed film featuring new faces. It remains to be seen how the movie performs in the long run.

Youth also features Devadarshini, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anishma Anilkumar, Priyanshi Yadav, and Meenakshi Dinesh in pivotal roles. The film is bankrolled by Karuppiah C. Ram and Sulochana Kumar under the banners Paarvathaa Entertainments and Street Boy Studios, respectively. GV Prakash Kumar composed the music.

Director Harish Shankar, who recently worked on Ustad Bhagat Singh with Power Star Pawan Kalyan, did not get the expected result with the film. However, he stated that, in terms of writing, it is one of his better works compared to Gabbar Singh. Meanwhile, on the occasion of his birthday, an interesting update about his next project has emerged.

KVN Productions, which is currently handling projects like Jana Nayagan, Toxic, and KD, has announced a new Telugu film with Harish Shankar. The production house also extended birthday wishes to the director, adding that they are “looking forward to what’s in store,” which has sparked curiosity around the project.

According to industry buzz, Harish Shankar has narrated a story to Nandamuri Balakrishna, and the film is likely to be produced by KVN Productions. However, an official confirmation regarding the cast and other details is still awaited.

Due to censorship issues, Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan is yet to hit screens. The film, initially planned for a Pongal release, has been postponed indefinitely, leading to massive frustration and disappointment among fans. A few days ago, speculations pointed towards a July release.

However, the latest buzz suggests that the political action drama may arrive in cinemas in the last week of April. With state elections scheduled for April 23, the film is likely to be released after the polling date, as per recent reports. Since fans expected the film to release only after April, they are pleasantly surprised by the fresh buzz.

If the release happens at the earliest, KVN Productions can breathe a sigh of relief, as their other biggie, Toxic, has also been postponed due to various reasons. Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth, stars Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol in key roles.
